According to CBS News, a Seattle Uber driver narrowly avoided an accident with a car that suddenly pulled into moving traffic while driving his Tesla.
The Uber driver was driving on State Route 99 near downtown Seattle on a dark, rainy evening when an oncoming car made an unexpected lefthand turn, but thanks to the autopilot technology of his Tesla Model S P85D the vehicle immediately stopped and avoided the collision.
The incident was recorded on his dashcam and was later uploaded to YouTube:
The Uber driver was traveling at just under 45 mph and captioned below the video that he “did not touch the brake” and that the “car did all the work.”
Tesla’s autopilot feature uses cameras and sensors to detect how close you are to the car in front of you and can apply the brakes to keep a safe distance. The feature can also change lanes and warn drivers about potential side impacts.
