According to KREM News, the Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Office is investigating a traffic stop where a man was arrested for driving under the influence last Saturday morning.
Deputies said around 1:40 a.m. they observed a Chevrolet Monte Carlo driving above posted speed limits and weaving in and out of their lane.
When deputies pulled over the driver, he told them that he had drank one beer, as well as smoked marijuana prior to driving, and had marijuana inside his car.
At first, the man told deputies that the would not perform field sobriety tests because he was fine and almost to his destination. He also told deputies that he did not want to his young child, who was sleeping in the vehicle, to see all of this.
The man eventually agreed to the tests, but declined a breathalyzer test. The deputy then placed him under arrest for DUI.
The man told deputies that while he might “high,” he was not intoxicated. He stated that he did not know someone could get a DUI for marijuana.
Deputies released the child to a family member and contacted Child Protective Services. The man was transported and booked into Spokane County Jail for DUI.
