DUI Fatalities Steady in Washington State

It is always a busy start to the year for law enforcement officers, especially for those looking for intoxicated drivers.  This New Year’s Eve was no different for state troopers across Washington State.

Field sobriety tests were performed by state troopers throughout the night on New Year’s Eve, checking for signs of impairment.  Signs they look for range from erratic lane changes to speeding, resulting in arrests for both drunk driving and impairment due to marijuana.

The Target Zero program has a goal of eliminating all traffic deaths in Washington State by 2030, but the dent being made by the program isn’t so clear.  Traffic fatalities remain steady and preliminary data shows 12 deaths in DUI accidents in Yakima County alone in 2014, up from eight in 2013. f
