Five-Car Crash Near Monroe Sends Eight to Hospital

According to King 5 News, eight people were injured Monday evening in a crash involving five cars on Highway 2 between Sultan and Monroe.

Troopers say a car was stopped on Highway 2 to make a left turn. Another car stopped behind it, waiting for the first driver to turn. Another vehicle is believed to have came up behind him, didn’t see the cars stopped, and swerved into oncoming traffic. One vehicle, believe to have had several children inside, flipped over upside down. Another car also ended up upside down in a ditch.

The highway was shut down for hours as troopers investigated the crash. They say early indications are that the driver of one of the Dodge Durango was not paying attention. He told troopers that he looked up and saw other cars stopped in front of him, and swerved to avoid hitting them.

The Washington State Patrol said two people were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. A third person was later transported from a hospital in Everett to Harborview. A spokesperson for Harborview said a mother and ten-year-old child were being treated there, and were in stable condition but being moved to the Intensive Care Unit. The driver of the Dodge Durango is in Snohomish County Jail facing three charges of vehicular assault. Washington State Patrol also reports that drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the collision.
